The Third China-UK Forum on the Economics of Energy and Climate Change was successfully held

On the 3rd and 4th of December, 2021, the third China-UK Forum on the Economics of Energy and Climate Change, co-hosted by the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEP) of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) and Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction (BSSC) of University College London (UCL), was successfully held in London. The forum, which combines offline and online format, was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the British Council’s Bilateral Seminar programme. Professor Liao Hua, Deputy Director of the BIT CEEP, and Dr Zhifu Mi, Associate professor of the UCL BSSC, chaired the forum. More than 150 energy and climate change economics scholars from China and the UK attended the conference.

The first day of workshop is divided into keynote speech, invited speech and journal editor sessions. The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr Zhifu Mi. Professor Christoph Lindner, Dean of The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment of UCL, and Professor Wei Yiming, Vice President of BIT, addressed the opening ceremony. Keynote speakers have covered topics on nuclear power, solar farms, circular economy, and Integrated Assessment Model (IAM). The invited speech session was moderated by Dr. Peter Ye. Speakers shared their latest research on net zero infrastructure, carbon price, water 4.0, cleaner production, resource resilient foundries and more, provoking insightful questions and discussions among conference participants. The forum has also hosted an exchange session for journal editors. Journal editors of Climate Change Economics, Energy and Climate Change, Journal of Cleaner Production, Structural Change and Economic Dynamics, and World of Development shared with participating researchers their advices on journal publication their thoughts on publishing academic papers related to the economics of energy and climate change. On the second day, 33 experts and scholars from China and the UK shared their research and exchanged discussions on the topics of Climate Change Economics and Policy, Low-carbon Transition and Carbon neutrality, and Energy Economy and Policy in the parallel sessions.

The China-UK Forum this year has further developed towards an excellent platform for China and UK researchers to exchange ideas and promote international cooperation on global climate change.
